Udi Local Government Area council was created in 1991 as one among the existing seventeen local government areas in Enugu state and is located in the valley part of many hills in Udi.

The local council administration was founded for the sole aim of bringing the influence of the federal and state government to the local dwellers in the towns and communities; these influences come through several allocations through the local government councilor, chairman and other officials for proper development and economic welfare of the entire clans.

This local government has five major clans which are Ogbluo, Egede, Affa, Ugwunye, Akpakume-Nze and tenty-four popular communities.The local government area is known for hilly type of topography, The popular Awhum waterfall is located in the local government.
