Egbeda is the headquarters of the Local Government Area which was created out from Lagelu Local Government in 1989. The LGA is bordered by Osun State to the East, Lagelu LGA to the North, Ibadan North to the West and Ona Ara Local Government to the South. It has 11 councilors that represent 11 subdivision of wards functioning under the LGA.

This local government area was founded with the major aim of promoting economic viability of the Local Government by ensuring full participation of the indigenes through job creation.
