Akinyele is one of the Local Government Areas in Oyo state, Nigeria which was created out from Ibadan Municipal Government in 1976 during the regime of General Muritala-Obasanjo.
This LGA hosts some of the notable higher institutions in the state such as Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research, International Institute of Tropical Agricultural, Federal School of Statistics, the proposed Dominican University, Second Mechanised division known as Odogbo Cantonment and some parts of University of Ibadan Land area also fall within the Local Government around Apete.
