Land Size / Plot Converter

Convert a known land area between square metres, hectares, acres and square feet, with an optional plot-equivalent calculation based only on the plot size you enter.

Optional plot-equivalent calculation

There is deliberately no default “plot size”. If you want a plot equivalent, enter the actual area used for one plot in the specific layout, estate, survey or transaction you are analysing.

Whole plots that fit by areaNot calculated

Plot and boundary warning: A mathematical area equivalent does not prove that a parcel can physically or legally be subdivided into that number of plots. Shape, access, roads, setbacks, planning requirements, easements and actual boundaries can reduce usable subdivision area. This tool does not replace survey or planning advice.

How to Use This Converter

Enter any known land area and select its unit. The converter produces equivalent areas in the major displayed units. If you also know the actual area used for one plot in your specific context, enter it in the optional plot section.

Land Area Conversion

1 hectare = 10,000 m²
1 acre = 4,046.8564224 m²
1 m² ≈ 10.7639104 ft²
1 m² ≈ 1.19599005 yd²

Plot Equivalent = Total Land Area ÷ User-Entered Plot Area

Why Plot Size Must Be Entered

“Plot” is not a universal measurement unit. Plot dimensions can vary between layouts, estates, subdivisions, cities and transactions. Finelib therefore does not convert hectares or acres into a supposed standard number of Nigerian plots unless the user first defines the actual plot area being used.

Plot Equivalent vs Physical Subdivision

If 5,000 m² is mathematically equal to ten plots of 500 m² each, that does not mean ten buildable plots will fit on a real parcel. The land shape and space required for roads, access, drainage, setbacks and planning requirements can change the practical result.

Known Area vs Measured Dimensions

Use this converter when the land area is already known from a reliable source. If you instead have the length and width of a rectangular parcel, use the Land Area Calculator to calculate the area first.

Land Size in Nigerian Property Transactions

For actual transactions, compare informal descriptions with the dimensions and area shown on relevant survey and property documents. Independently verify the land, boundaries, title and documentation before relying on an area description for purchase or development.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many plots are in one hectare?

There is no universal answer because a plot is not a fixed area. Enter the actual area of one plot and the converter will calculate the mathematical equivalent.

How many plots are in one acre?

It depends on the plot area being used. One acre is approximately 4,046.8564 m², which can be divided by your specific plot area.

Why does Finelib not use 600 m² as one plot?

Because plot sizes vary. Treating one locally common size as a universal Nigerian standard would produce misleading results.

Can I convert square feet to hectares?

Yes. Select square feet as the input unit and the converter displays the hectare equivalent.

What does whole plots that fit mean?

It is the whole-number area division only. It does not account for parcel shape, roads, setbacks or planning rules.

Can I enter my plot size in acres?

Yes. The optional plot area accepts the same supported area units.

Does this verify land documents or boundaries?

No. It performs unit conversion and area arithmetic only.
