Land Area Calculator

Calculate rectangular land area from measured length and width, then convert the result to square metres, hectares, acres and square feet.

No universal Nigerian plot size is assumed. Enter the actual measured or documented dimensions. A locally described “plot” can represent different areas in different layouts, transactions and locations.

Enter the measured length and width, choose their unit, then calculate.

—square metres
—hectares
—acres
—square feet
Entered dimensions—
Area of one rectangular section—
Number of identical sections—
Total area in square yards—
Total area in hectares—
Total area in acres—
Measurement boundary: This calculator assumes each entered section is rectangular. Real parcels can be irregular, tapered or multi-sided. It does not replace a cadastral survey, registered survey plan, boundary verification or professional land measurement. Use verified survey information for legal or transaction decisions.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter the actual length and width of a rectangular parcel or section, choose whether the measurements are in metres, feet or yards, and calculate. If several sections have exactly the same dimensions, the optional multiplier can combine them.

How Land Area Is Calculated

Rectangular Area = Length × Width

Total Area = Area of One Section × Number of Identical Sections

1 hectare = 10,000 m²
1 acre = 4,046.8564224 m²
1 m² ≈ 10.7639104 ft²

Square Metres, Hectares and Acres

Square metres are useful for individual plots and property documentation. Hectares are metric units commonly used for larger land areas. Acres are another land-area unit used in property and agricultural contexts. The calculator shows all of them from the same underlying area.

Why Finelib Does Not Assume a Standard Plot Size

The word “plot” is a market description rather than a universal area measurement. Actual dimensions can vary between layouts, states, estates, subdivisions and individual transactions. A calculator should therefore use measured dimensions or documented area rather than silently converting “one plot” to a fixed number of square metres.

Irregular Land

Length × width is appropriate only for a rectangle. An irregular parcel may require decomposition into measured geometric sections or, more importantly for a real transaction, a professional survey based on the actual boundary coordinates and survey plan.

Land Measurement in Nigeria

For property purchase, development, valuation or title work in Nigeria, do not rely solely on informal plot descriptions. Check the dimensions and area stated on relevant property and survey documents and independently verify boundaries and documentation with qualified professionals where appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate land area from length and width?

For a rectangular parcel, multiply the measured length by the measured width using consistent units.

How many square metres are in one hectare?

One hectare contains 10,000 square metres.

How many square metres are in one acre?

One international acre is approximately 4,046.8564 square metres.

How many square metres are in one Nigerian plot?

There is no single universal Nigerian plot area. Use the actual dimensions or documented area for the specific land.

Can this calculate an irregular parcel?

Not directly. The primary calculation assumes a rectangle. Irregular legal boundaries should be measured from reliable survey information.

Can I use dimensions in feet?

Yes. Select feet and the calculator will convert the resulting area to the displayed units.

Does this replace a land survey?

No. It is a planning and conversion tool, not a cadastral survey or boundary verification.
