How the calculation works

Waist-to-height ratio = waist circumference divided by height, using the same units. The adult screening bands used here are below 0.40 (lower than typical screening range), 0.40 to below 0.50 (below the common 0.50 threshold), 0.50 to below 0.60 (increased central adiposity screening range), and 0.60 or higher (higher central adiposity screening range). These are broad screening labels, not diagnoses.

Measure the waist around the midpoint between the lowest rib and top of the hip bone after a normal breath out. This tool is not intended for children, pregnancy or individual clinical decisions.
