Planning estimate: Sand moisture, bulking, grading, compaction, mortar joints, workmanship and mix design affect actual site quantities. The weight conversion is particularly approximate because bulk density changes with sand type and moisture. Purchase and engineering decisions should use project specifications and supplier/site measurements.

Calculation approach

Blockwork: estimates mortar volume from wall area using an editable wet-mortar allowance, then converts the mortar mix to dry ingredients using a dry-volume factor. Plastering and screeding: use area × thickness, then apply the selected cement:sand mortar ratio and dry-volume factor. Concrete: uses concrete volume, a dry-volume factor and the selected cement:sand:aggregate nominal ratio to estimate the sand fraction. Wastage is applied after the base sand quantity.

How to Use and Check Your Result

Enter the measurements, quantities, costs and assumptions requested in the calculator above. Use its calculation control and review the displayed result. All figures should be checked against your actual project or operating conditions.

Planning and safety: Confirm measurements, local conditions, material specifications and professional requirements before purchase or construction. Finelib does not certify engineering designs or supplier quotations.
