Roofing Calculator

Estimate sloped roof area, rafter/slope length and roofing sheet quantity from your building dimensions, roof pitch, overhang and the sheet's effective cover.

Enter your roof details

This first version estimates a simple symmetrical gable roof. Complex hips, valleys, dormers and intersecting roofs require plan-based measurement.

Use the supplier's effective cover width where possible. Nominal sheet width is not the same as installed coverage because sheets overlap. Manufacturer profiles can differ.

Planning estimate: A simple rectangular gable roof can be estimated geometrically, but real roofs may include hips, valleys, parapets, dormers, penetrations, unequal slopes and special flashing. Confirm final take-off against the roof plan and the selected manufacturer's installation specification before ordering.

How this estimate works

The calculator adds the selected overhang to the building dimensions, uses the roof pitch to calculate the sloped eave-to-ridge distance, and derives the total surface area of both gable roof planes. For cut-to-length longspan sheets, sheet count is based primarily on effective cover width along the roof length. For fixed-length sheets, coverage is calculated from effective width × sheet length. Wastage is then applied to the purchase estimate.
