Paint Calculator

Estimate paint for walls, ceilings or a known surface area. Adjust coats, product coverage, wastage and container size to match the paint you intend to use.

What are you painting?

Use the coverage rate printed on the selected paint's technical information whenever available.

Coverage is product-specific: the starting 10 m²/L/coat is only an editable planning input. Actual spreading rate depends on paint formulation, substrate porosity/texture, colour change, application method and manufacturer instructions. Do not treat it as a live Finelib product specification.

Planning estimate: Primer/sealer, undercoat and finish paint are different products and should be calculated separately when required. Very porous new plaster, rough surfaces, strong colour changes, overspray and site conditions can materially increase consumption. Confirm the product's technical data and surface-preparation requirements before purchase.

How the estimate works

For walls, surface area is calculated from room perimeter × wall height, less doors, windows and other exclusions. Ceiling mode uses length × width. Direct Area accepts a measured surface area. Net area is multiplied by the number of coats, divided by the entered coverage rate, and increased by the selected wastage/touch-up allowance. The calculator then rounds up to whole containers of the selected size.
