Construction Project Budget Calculator

Combine the main cost components of a construction project into one planning budget, add contingency and see how the budget is distributed across categories.

Direct construction costs
Project-wide costs
Budget allowances
Enter costs on a consistent basis. If a contractor's quotation already includes labour, equipment, preliminaries or overheads, do not enter the same amount again in another category. Taxes, financing costs and land purchase are not automatically added; include them in Other Project Costs only when they belong in your chosen budget scope.

Budgeting boundary: This calculator totals the amounts you enter; it does not certify that the budget is sufficient. Construction budgets can change because of design development, quantities, specification, site conditions, inflation, exchange rates, logistics, programme, variations, statutory requirements and procurement method. Maintain a clear scope and update the budget as verified prices and quotations become available.

How the calculation works

Direct costs are materials + labour + plant/equipment + specialist/subcontract works. Project-wide costs are preliminaries + professional fees + external works/utilities + other costs. The selected contingency percentage is applied to the subtotal of all entered categories. The result shows the total planning budget and each category's share. If floor area is entered, the calculator also derives an effective budget per m² for comparison, without treating it as a market rate.
