Calculate poultry profit
Use figures from the same production cycle. All monetary inputs are in Nigerian naira (₦).
1. Birds and sales
2. Direct production costs
3. Other cycle expenses
Enter bird numbers, sales prices and cycle expenses, then calculate.
Break-even price assumes the entered other revenue and total costs remain unchanged. A negative break-even price is displayed as ₦0 with an explanation.
How to Use This Calculator
Enter the number of birds stocked, expected mortality percentage and selling price for each surviving bird. Add any other cycle revenue, chick or pullet purchase costs, feed, veterinary expenses, labour, utilities and remaining costs. Select Calculate Poultry Profit to view revenue, profit and break-even figures.
Poultry Profit Formula
Bird sales revenue = Birds sold × Selling price per bird
Total revenue = Bird sales revenue + Other revenue
Chick purchase cost = Starting birds × Purchase price per chick
Gross profit = Total revenue − Direct production costs
Net profit = Total revenue − All entered cycle costs
Profit margin = Net profit ÷ Total revenue × 100%, when revenue is positive
Break-even bird price = max(0, (Total costs − Other revenue) ÷ Birds sold), when birds sold is positive
Understanding Poultry Profit
A positive net profit means your estimated revenue exceeds entered costs; a negative result is a loss. Mortality reduces the number of birds available for sale, while most costs may already have been incurred. Compare several mortality and selling-price scenarios before planning a cycle.
Important Poultry Farming Considerations
Feed conversion, feed wastage, flock health, bird weight, seasonality, market access, energy costs and the timing of mortality affect profitability. This model assumes one sale price for all surviving birds and does not automatically account for bird-weight differences, partial sales or mortality timing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is poultry profit calculated?
Net profit equals poultry sales revenue plus other cycle revenue minus all entered production and operating costs.
How is mortality included?
Estimated surviving birds equal starting birds minus expected losses based on the entered mortality rate. Whole-bird sales use the floor of the estimated survivors.
Does the calculator work for broilers and layers?
It is primarily a per-bird sales model, suitable for broiler or spent-layer sales. Egg revenue can be entered as other revenue, but a dedicated layer model is preferable for ongoing egg production.
Does mortality reduce feed cost automatically?
No. Enter actual or forecast feed costs for the cycle. Feed consumption timing and mortality patterns are not inferred.
What is the break-even price per bird?
It is the selling price needed to cover total entered costs after subtracting other revenue, divided by estimated birds sold.
Does this include current Nigerian poultry prices?
No. Users enter their own prices and expenses because they vary by location, season and supplier.
Is this a cash-flow or investment-return calculator?
No. It estimates a single-cycle accounting-style profit based on entered revenue and costs; it does not model cash timing, taxes or depreciation automatically.
