Poultry Feed Calculator

Estimate daily, weekly and total poultry feed requirements, whole feed bags and feed costs for broilers, layers or other poultry.

Calculate poultry feed requirements

Enter the number of birds and their estimated feed intake. Use a consumption rate suitable for the flock's age and type.

Assumes this population remains constant during the period
Does not automatically change feed intake
Enter your own observed or recommended rate
Added to planned feed consumption
Optional: enter a current supplier quotation
Planning assumptions: This is a constant-flock, constant-daily-intake estimate. Feed intake changes with bird age, breed and management. For multi-stage production, calculate each stage separately and add the requirements. Whole bags are rounded up for purchasing.

—Daily feed incl. wastage
—Weekly feed incl. wastage
—Base feed for period
—Wastage allowance for period
—Total feed for period
—Whole bags to purchase
—Estimated whole-bag purchase cost
—Feed purchased in whole bags
—Bag-rounding surplus

Weekly quantity is a seven-day equivalent, even when the selected period is shorter than seven days. Costs exclude delivery, storage and other charges unless included in the bag price.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter bird population, average daily feed intake per bird in grams, number of days, expected feed wastage, bag weight and optional price per bag. Press Calculate to see daily, weekly and total feed quantities, whole bags required and an estimated feed purchase budget.

Poultry Feed Calculation Formula

Base daily feed (kg) = Birds × Grams per bird per day ÷ 1,000
Feed including wastage (kg/day) = Base daily feed × (1 + Wastage % ÷ 100)
Weekly feed (kg) = Feed including wastage per day × 7
Period feed (kg) = Feed including wastage per day × Days
Whole bags = Round up (Period feed ÷ Bag size in kg)
Estimated purchase cost = Whole bags × Price per bag

Understanding the Results

Daily and weekly quantities are planning rates; the total reflects the selected period. The wastage allowance increases the feed requirement above estimated consumption. Whole-bag purchasing may result in a small surplus because partial bags cannot be ordered in this model.

Factors Affecting Poultry Feed Consumption

Actual intake varies by age, breed, body weight, temperature, health, feed formulation and production stage. A broiler's daily intake changes significantly during rearing, so use stage-specific calculations where practical. For layers, account for flock age and laying status.

Poultry Feed Planning in Nigeria

Feed bag sizes and prices can vary among Nigerian suppliers and locations. The calculator does not preload or claim current feed prices. Verify bag weight, formulation and supplier quotations before buying. Feed budgets are not the same as full poultry production costs or profit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the poultry feed calculator estimate?

It estimates daily, weekly and selected-period feed needs from the bird count and daily consumption per bird.

Can I calculate feed for broilers and layers?

Yes. Enter the daily feed intake appropriate to your bird type, age and management conditions.

How do I account for feed wastage?

Enter a percentage feed wastage allowance; the calculator adds that percentage to estimated feed consumption.

Does this model include bird mortality?

No. It assumes the entered bird population remains constant throughout the selected period. Adjust the population or calculate separate stages if it changes.

How are feed bags calculated?

The calculator divides total feed kilograms by your chosen bag weight and rounds up to whole bags.

Does it include live poultry feed prices in Nigeria?

No. Enter a current supplier quotation for the bag price; the calculator does not assume a market rate.

Why might actual feed use differ?

Bird age, breed, temperature, health, feed formulation, feeding method and losses can change consumption.
