Calculate livestock profit
Use one consistent period or livestock batch. Enter all prices and expenses in Nigerian naira (₦).
1. Livestock and sales
2. Animal purchase and production expenses
Enter animal numbers, sale price and costs, then calculate.
How to Use This Calculator
Select the livestock type, enter the number purchased or stocked and the expected mortality rate. Add the selling price per surviving animal and any other cycle revenue. Enter purchase, feed, veterinary, labour and other expenses. Select Calculate to estimate sales, costs and profit.
Livestock Profit Formula
Animal sales revenue = Surviving animals × Sale price per animal
Total revenue = Animal sales revenue + Other revenue
Total costs = Number stocked × Purchase price per animal + All other entered costs
Net profit = Total revenue − Total costs
Profit margin = Net profit ÷ Total revenue × 100% (when revenue is positive)
Break-even sale price = (Total costs − Other revenue) ÷ Surviving animals (when survivors are positive)
Understanding Livestock Profit
A positive net profit indicates the entered revenue exceeds entered costs. A negative result indicates an estimated loss. Mortality reduces the number available for sale but does not reduce the initial purchase cost or other entered expenses.
Important Factors Affecting Profit
Feed conversion, animal health, veterinary support, mortality, weight gain, market access, transport, housing, financing and selling price can all change outcomes. Where animals are sold by liveweight rather than per head, use a consistent estimated price per animal or a more detailed weight-based model.
Livestock Profit Planning in Nigeria
Livestock prices and costs vary by animal, breed, age, market, season and location. Use verified local quotes and your own records. This calculator does not provide current market prices or veterinary advice. Livestock mortality estimates are planning assumptions, not forecasts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is livestock net profit?
Livestock net profit is the estimated sales revenue plus other cycle revenue minus animal purchase, feed, veterinary, labour and other entered expenses.
How is mortality included?
Expected losses are calculated from the stocked animal count and mortality percentage. Estimated saleable animals are rounded down to a whole animal.
Can I use this for cattle, goats, sheep and pigs?
Yes. Enter appropriate quantities, prices and costs for your chosen livestock type.
Does this calculate profit from milk or breeding?
You may include additional income, but this simple model does not separately account for retained breeding stock, inventory valuation or milk production economics.
Does it include feed costs?
Yes. Enter the total feed cost for the selected livestock production or trading cycle.
Are current livestock prices in Nigeria included?
No. All sale prices and expenses are user-entered and should reflect your own records or verified quotations.
What is the break-even selling price?
It is the animal selling price needed to cover entered costs after considering other revenue, divided by estimated animals sold. It is not a market price prediction.
