Fertilizer Requirement Formula
Fertilizer per application (kg) = Area (ha) × Application rate (kg/ha)
Base fertilizer (kg) = Fertilizer per application × Number of applications
Total requirement (kg) = Base fertilizer × (1 + Allowance % ÷ 100)
Whole bags = Round up (Total requirement ÷ Bag size in kg)
Purchase cost (₦) = Whole bags × Price per bag, when supplied
Understanding Your Results
The total requirement represents fertilizer product mass, including your optional allowance. Whole bags are rounded up to avoid purchasing less than the calculated quantity. The estimated purchase cost reflects whole bags, not fractional bags, and excludes delivery and other expenses unless included in the bag price.
Important Factors Affecting Fertilizer Requirements
Crop variety, soil nutrients, application method, planting density, fertilizer formulation, rainfall and crop stage all influence the appropriate agronomic rate. A product application rate must not be confused with the required mass of a particular nutrient. Consult appropriate local agronomic guidance before application.
