Farm Land Area Calculator

Convert your total farm area, deduct reserved land and plan planting allocations for up to six crops using hectares, acres and square metres.

Calculate farm and usable planting area

Enter the total measured farm area, then reserve land for paths, structures, water infrastructure or other non-planting uses.

Percentage reserve and additional reserve are added together. Do not enter the same reserved land twice.

Crop land allocation (optional)

Enter up to six crops and the area allocated to each. Leave unused allocations at zero.

Planning note: This tool assumes all input areas refer to the same farm. Crop allocations are checked against usable planting area, not total farm area. Hectare/acre conversions do not establish land title, boundaries or a legally approved plot size.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter the total farm size in hectares, acres or square metres. Add a reserved percentage and, if needed, an additional non-planting area. Then assign portions of the usable land to individual crops. Click Calculate to see conversions, usable land, allocations and any over-allocation warning.

Farm Land Area Formulas

Total reserved area = (Total area × Reserved percentage ÷ 100) + Additional reserved area
Usable planting area = Total farm area − Total reserved area
Crop allocated area = Sum of crop allocations after unit conversion
Unallocated usable area = Usable planting area − Crop allocated area
Conversions: 1 hectare = 10,000 m² ≈ 2.4710538 acres; 1 acre = 0.40468564224 hectare.

Why Usable Area Differs from Total Area

Paths, buildings, drainage, water storage, setbacks, rocky land and other non-cultivated spaces can reduce the land available for planting. Allocating crops using usable area helps prevent overstating available planting land.

Land Allocation Across Crops

Allocate measured areas to each crop rather than assuming that every hectare can be planted. The calculator flags when combined crop allocations exceed usable land. It does not estimate spacing, yield, crop compatibility or intercropping overlap.

Farm Area Planning in Nigeria

Farm parcels vary across Nigeria. This calculator uses standard measured area units and does not assume a fixed Nigerian plot size. For purchase, boundary, cadastral or title questions, obtain a qualified survey and independent verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is usable planting area calculated?

Usable planting area equals total farm area minus land reserved for paths, buildings, setbacks, water infrastructure and other non-planting uses.

Can I enter acres or square metres?

Yes. Enter total land area in hectares, acres or square metres; all results are shown in the three units.

Can I allocate land to several crops?

Yes. Enter up to six crop names and areas, choosing a unit for each allocation.

What happens if crop allocations exceed usable land?

The calculator reports an over-allocation warning and the area exceeding usable planting land.

Can I use percentages to reserve land?

Yes. Enter a reserve percentage of total farm area and optionally an additional reserved area; both are deducted.

Is one plot always a fixed size in Nigeria?

No. Plot sizes vary. This calculator uses measured hectares, acres and square metres, not a universal Nigerian plot size.

Does this calculator verify a survey or land title?

No. It is a planning tool and does not replace a professional land survey, title verification or legal land-use assessment.
