Agricultural Produce Pricing Calculator

Set a cost-based selling price for farm produce and calculate break-even price, markup, profit margin, expected revenue and profit or loss.

Calculate produce selling price

Use one consistent sale unit such as kg, bag, crate or tonne. Enter the total cost and quantity available for sale for the same production or trading cycle.

For target margin, enter less than 100%.
Must not exceed saleable quantity.
Pricing distinction: Markup is profit divided by cost; profit margin is profit divided by sales revenue. They are not interchangeable. Break-even price spreads all entered costs across the entire saleable quantity. For sales below that quantity, remaining inventory is not valued separately in the simplified profit estimate.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter the quantity of produce available for sale, your total production or purchase costs, and packaging, transport and other expenses. Choose whether to price using markup on cost or a target margin on sales. Optionally enter an actual selling price and expected sales quantity to model revenue and profit.

Calculation Methodology

Total cost = Production/purchase cost + Handling cost + Other expenses

Break-even price per unit = Total cost ÷ Saleable quantity

Markup-based price = Break-even unit cost × (1 + Target markup ÷ 100)

Margin-based price = Break-even unit cost ÷ (1 − Target margin ÷ 100)

Expected revenue = Selling price used × Quantity expected to sell

Estimated profit = Expected revenue − Total entered costs

Profit margin = Profit ÷ Revenue × 100 (if revenue is positive)

Markup on cost = Profit ÷ Total cost × 100 (if total cost is positive)

Understanding Your Results

The target selling price reflects your cost and chosen markup or margin, not a verified market quotation. When you enter a separate actual selling price, revenue and profit use that price instead. Selling fewer units can reduce profit even when the selling price exceeds the full-volume break-even unit cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup divides profit by cost, while margin divides profit by sales revenue.

How is break-even selling price calculated?

Total entered costs are divided by the saleable quantity.

Can I calculate prices for bags or crates?

Yes. Choose any consistent sale unit and enter costs and quantities on that basis.

Does this show current market prices in Nigeria?

No. All prices are user-entered or calculated from user-entered costs.

Can I enter an actual selling price?

Yes. The optional selling price overrides the calculated target price for expected revenue and profit.

What if I sell fewer units than planned?

Enter the expected sales quantity. The simplified profit estimate subtracts all entered cycle costs from expected sales revenue.

Can a produce pricing calculation show a loss?

Yes. If revenue is less than total entered costs, estimated profit is negative.
