Ona Ara Local Government Area is among the 33 existing LGAs of Oyo state, Nigeria carved out from old Oluyole Local Government in 1989 by the then President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. Its administrative headquarters is located in the town of Akanran.

Ona Ara LGA is bounded by Egbeda and Oluyole Local Government Areas. The administration of this local govern area is handled by the local government council whereas the legislative council of the area make laws that govern the entire local government.
