The Ministry is also implementing the National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy (NREEEP), which seeks to promote the use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power and improve energy efficiency in Nigeria. The NREEEP aims to increase the share of renewable energy in Nigeria's total energy mix to 30% by 2030.

The Ministry has also embarked on several projects to improve Nigeria's power sector. These include the construction of new power plants, the expansion of existing power plants, the rehabilitation of transmission and distribution infrastructure, and the implementation of smart grid technologies. The Ministry is also working towards increasing access to electricity in rural areas through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), responsible for implementing off-grid and mini-grid solutions in rural communities.
